I am so happy to announce the dates for my next Holo Life retreat on Mallorca!

The 2nd to 6th of May 2024 I will share 4 days of yoga, breathwork, meditation, hiking, sound healing, spiritual ceremonies and rituals, inner work processes, sisterhood, healthy vegetarian food, and time to just be. The retreat will take place at the amazing Finca Osa Major @osamajor_mallorca the same location as the last Holo Life retreat on Mallorca.

HOLO LIFE RETREAT

I am filled with so much joy, love and gratitude for my latest Holo Life retreat this October in Mallorca!

So many amazing women joined this 4-day physical, mental and energetic journey.

We practiced different forms of yoga, experienced deep transformational breathwork, opened up for sound healing, hiked in silence, gathered in rituals of cacao-, new moon-, fire- and shamanic ceremonies, we connected with nature, we talked, laughed and cried, and ate healthy and nourishing food. And much more that I cannot describe in words…….

I am beyond grateful for the brave, generous and humble women who joined this retreat and shared their loving energy. You will forever stay in my heart.

The retreat was held at fantastic @osamajor_mallorca . I could not have wished for a more magical place for this retreat. The owners are so supportive and your experience all their time, love and passion they have put into this amazing Finca. Nina @verbeeknina_ was the chef and she was treating us every day with her food filled with love, passion, health and a lot of creativity!

On my retreats I am sharing all my teachings and practices. I am using all my tools to create a retreat journey. A journey for the body, mind, soul and beyond.

Description of the circle:
Through shamanic rituals, techniques and instruments we will begin the journey in the south direction and the element of earth. We will awaken our feminine life force and creativity. We will call in the archetype of the great serpent and learn the teachings how to shift our energy like the serpent sheds her skin.

We continue into the direction of the west and the element of the Water. We connect with our own inner power and how to use it to flow with life. We work with the archetype of the Jaguar and learn her teachings how to go beyond violence, fear, death and all our illusions.

In the direction of the North and the element of Fire we awaken the essence of joy and happiness and how to bring it into our lives. We will connect with our higher wisdom and the language of our souls. We connect with the teachings of the archetype of the Hummingbird and how we say yes to life!

In the direction of the East and the
element of the Winds we open the portal to our heart’s deep wisdom. We awaken our inner power of love and connect to kindness, humility, unconditional love and UNION. It’s interesting to do your own rehab program when I have been guiding many clients over the years, using yoga as part of a rehab program after an injury.
Right now, I am exploring my body in so many new ways. I can’t say - yet - that I am happy that this injury happened, but it’s for sure interesting and I am learning so many new things about myself and my body. Every day it feels a little bit easier to move and the wound feels less painful and stiff.

I am so grateful for my yoga practice and yoga as a rehab tool and I am so grateful for the form of practice that I still can do. Even though I am still very stiff and getting used to move again, it feels so damn good 🙏🏻

Today I received the friend on my right foot, a supporting boot. It feels magical, and scary, to be able to put a little bit of weight on to the boot. The crutches will still be with me for many more weeks, but still…making progress.

For those of you who do not know about my injury, I had a total rupture of my Achilles tendon and a following surgery 3 weeks ago (it wasn’t yoga that created this injury of course). Very unfortunate when your profession includes your own body….
But, if you have any questions about Achilles tendon injury and rehab please reach out.
I will also share some of my healing journey here of course.

Breathe Im still adapting to my yoga practice wit

Breathe
Im still adapting to my yoga practice with my injury. Slowly I am finding new ways of practice and also discover new things, both in my practice and my body. It’s very interesting (also very frustrating) how your body and mind is reacting and adapting with only one foot fully functioning.

I have focused a lot on my breath practice the last couple of weeks. The first days in the hospital breathing was the only practice i could do.

Breath work and a daily breath practice has been part of my life for many years but when this accident happened I decided to deepen it even more. I will tell you more about this soon.

This morning I did a breathing sequence that was, calming, energizing and balancing. The perfect start for a busy day.:

Belly breathing: Laying down on your back, one hand on the belly and other on your heart. Breathing in to your hand, and inhale as deep as possible. Then let go and rest in to the exhale. Try to do at least 20 of those.
Belly breathing is very calming and relaxing.

Box breathing: Inhale on four, hold your breath for four, exhale for four, and hold for four. After a few rounds maybe extend to 5 or 6 or whatever pace suits you.
Box breathing is great for finding focus, presence and connecting to your breath.

Kapalabhati: Breathe out, breath in half way letting the belly come out, breathe out with a pump.
Emphasize on your out breath, the inhale is passive instead of active.
Start slow and then increase your pace to about two pumps per second.
Kapalabhati is stimulating your energy, energy flow and your kundalini power.

Nadi shodana: Alternate nostril breathing. Breath in through the left nostril, covering the right with your right thumb. Cover the left with your right ring/little finger and breath out through the right. Breath in through the right nostril. Cover the right and breath out through the left. This is one round. Do at least 10 rounds.
Nadi shodana is balancing for both for the para sympathetic and sympathetic nervous system.

For so many years I was a 110% doer. Always doing

For so many years I was a 110% doer. Always doing something with to-do lists that never ended, and I found it very hard to relax and be still. I tried so hard to be, what I thought, a better version of myself, all the time.
Always thinking if I try harder I will get that and that and then I can rest.

All those efforts made me so tired, so very very tired and lead to exhaustion, anxiety and panic attacks. It has been a journey to slow down, embracing life as it comes and just be content where I am right now. And it’s an ongoing journey and learning process. I still find it easier to be a doer than to sit back and relax, but I am trying and I am learning.

Yes, when it comes to your practice, it is better to practice a little every day than 1 hour twice a week. You will experience greater changes in your body if you practice a little every day.

If I only have 15-20 min to spend on my morning practice, I usually do this sequence. It will stretch out, warm up and create space in your body. Try rest your mind into the body, breath deep breaths and mindfully move through the poses.

Save and practice whenever you need a short sequence inspiration 💙

I just enjoyed a smoothie with blueberries, mango, orange, and banana. So delicious!!!
Blueberries are my absolute favorite berries and they are incredibly healthy and nutritious.
They boost your health, brain function and numerous other aspects of your body. They are also sweet, colorful and tastes so good! Here some of the health benefits of blueberries:
- High in fibers, vitamin C and K
- One of the top superfoods
- Reduces DNA damage, which may help protect against aging and cancer (DNA damage is the leading driver of aging and cancer)
- Protect cholesterol on your blood from becoming damaged
- May lower blood pressure
- Help prevent heart disease
- Can help maintain brain function and improve memory
- Might help fight urinary tract infections
- May reduce muscle damage after strenuous exercise

Enjoy them fresh or frozen. Try to look for wild blueberries, they are the healthiest, otherwise chose organic ones.

Yang deficiency
A follow up on yesterday’s post. You can of course also be Yang deficient.
Yang is responsible for warming and activating the body and its functions. The flows in the body is also dependent on a well-functioning yang energy.

Same as with Yin deficiency Yang deficiency can arise due to chronic stress or illness, poor nutrition or digestion.

When suffering from Yang deficiency the following symptoms may arise:
- Bodily coldness
- Cold and stiff limbs
- Fear of cold
- Puffy pale tongue
- Slow pulse
- Low energy

To increase the Yang the following might be helpful:
- Practices like yoga, qigong and tai chi is excellent for warming up the body, and being active in general.
- Make sure you do not expose yourself for too much cold, and if you need to, make sure you dress warm, especially around the waist, chest, lower back, wrists, ankles, and neck.
- Challenges and accomplishments tonify Yang. Having goals, outside stimulation and activity nourishes Yang.

Examples of food that is great for supporting Yang are; quinoa, rice, sweet potato, onion, radish, watercress.
Fruits and nuts such as; cherry, peach, raspberry, strawberry, walnuts, peanuts, pistachio.
Herbs such as; basil, black pepper, cayenne, cinnamon, fennel, garlic, peppermint, rosemary, turmeric, thyme, white pepper.
Beverages such as chai and jasmine tea are great for support Yang energy.

Avoid cold foods and beverage. They will deplete the Yang energy in the body, this includes foods and beverage taken from the fridge, and also raw food. A great way to make cold foods warm is by cooking the veggies and adding Yang ingredients to smoothies such as ginger, cinnamon, and use of non-frozen ingredients. Raw and cold food is in general harder for the body to digest.

Yin deficiency? Yin deficiency is often the resu

Yin deficiency?
Yin deficiency is often the result of prolonged stress and fatigue. Chronic disease and poor diet can also lead to yin deficiency.
To keep your body as healthy and well-functioning as possible, restoring Yin balance is necessary.

How do you know if you have Yin deficiency?
Here are some symptoms of Yin deficiency:
- Overheated and excessive sweating in the body
- Low-grade fever and body aches
- Dryness in the throat, eyes, and mouth
- Constipation
- Stomach cramping
- Bad sleep and disturbed sleep patterns
- Mood swings
- Heart palpitations
- Burning sensations in the palms and soles of the feet
You can suffer from one or more of these symptoms.

How can you increase the Yin if suffering from Yin deficiency?
We then come back to balance. We need to create balance between Yin and Yang.
A body in motion and activity is Yang and a body in stillness and rest is in Yin. The outer part of the body and Yang and the inside Yin. Energy-wise, everything that is directed outwards, conversation and interaction with others, execution and performance in a Yang energy while when we turn into ourselves, rest, recover and pause, we are in Yin energy.

So, to increase your Yin you might need to look at your life and see where there might be an unbalance. Are you too much in your Yang? Achieving, performing, creating? Do you take enough time to pause, recharge and rest?

For me Yin yoga is an excellent practice for restoring the Yin in my body. Also spending time in nature, sleep enough hours at night, take time for myself to recharge and eat well. If you want tips for yin food, see my previous post about which food is good for restoring and recharging your Yin. And try to avoid alcohol, caffeine and sugar.

Do you know your blood type?
When I found out my blood type I got really interested in how my food could affect my blood.
And why I am drawn to a certain type of food and friends and family to another.

I grew up with constant stomach issues, and stomach pain was part of my everyday life.
At the beginning of my twentieth, I stopped eating meat and dairy, and wow, my stomach and I got a new life.
That´s why I found it interesting when learning that my blood type do not do well eating meat or dairy.

Research shows that you can boost your health and prevent diseases if you eat accordingly to your blood type.
Below are some general recommendations for each blood type.

Blood type A (me):
Vegan/vegetarian diet is preferred: Vegetables, tofu, grains, beans, legumes, and fruit.
It is also recommended that this blood type engage in gentler practices like yoga, tai chi, walking, golf
(ha ha it is so funny how this fits into me)

Blood type B:
Varied diet: Grass-feed, free-range meat (organic, know your farmer), cultured dairy, grains, beans, legumes,
vegetables and fruit.
For this blood type exercises like hiking, biking, tennis, and swimming fits well.

Blood type AB:
Benefit from the strengths of both A and B types.
Mixed diet: Meat (organic, know your farmer), seafood (locally), dairy, tofu, beans, legumes, grains, vegetables, and fruit.
Calming, and centering practices like yoga, and tai chi combined with hiking, biking, and tennis are good for this type.

Blood type 0:
Diet: Meat (organic, know your farmer), high protein, vegetables, and fruit
Intense physical exercises such as running, contact sports, martial arts, and power yoga are recommended for this blood type.

So, if you do not know your blood type, find out! You can find easy home-tests online.
Then see if the above makes sense for you?

Body awareness
A lot of people are living their lives from the head. Disconnected from their bodies.
Letting the mind make all decisions, not listening to the signals the body is sending out. I have been there myself.

Yin yoga is an amazing practice to get to know yourself.
The slowness and meditative form of this practice gives you the
time and opportunity to explore and get to know your own body.

Body awareness strengthens your knowledge about yourself. It connects your mind with the body and breath. You learn to understand the language of the body and know the signals from the body (the body is so much wiser than the mind).
Body awareness also strengthens your intuition so you can learn trust your “gut feeling” and improves your focus.

Today I am sharing a sequence with you that strengthens your body awareness.
Stay in every pose a few minutes, preferable 3-5. In every pose try to focus on the body part that’s being activated, where you experience the pose the most.
Explore your body, follow the changes that you are creating!

Spending time in nature
is one of the best things you can do for your health.
It reduces stress, anxiety and worry.
It can create many positive emotions such as calmness, joy, creativity.
You connect more easily with yourself, and everything around you.

Last week I did some really amazing hikes here in Mallorca.
The beauty of this island is always breathtaking.
When standing on top of a mountain I always feel so humble towards this
earth and all life on it.
How we are given all this beauty, abundance and freedom.
How everything is connected.
Mallorca is truly one of the most wonderful places to live in
